I've noticed that the XL-H1 has an HD-SDI output. What is HD-SDI and how is it different from firewire?

If I edited via HD-SDI instead of via firewire, would the final image be any different?

Thanks.

IIRC it outputs before the HDV processing is done on the camera, so you get raw HD to play with. Could be completely wrong tho 🙂

rizzo - you could be wrong, but you're not..

rc - if your editing system (not just the software, the system) can handle uncompressed HD that is much better than the mpeg2 compression with HDV. There are several cameras on the market now that offer HD-SDI out put. It takes a pretty powerful system to work with uncompressed HD video - even in the 4:2:2 color space.

Thanks.

Can anyone tell me which sub $10,000 cameras offer HD-SDI, besides of course the Canon?

Also, what sort of computer would you need to edit HD-SDI with?

Would you have to buy a separate HD-SDI converter, or do Macs come with that feature built-in?
