I'm shooting a short and I need to be able to hit people with a baseball bat. I can;t use any kind of camera tricks so basically I need a bat that looks real but when you hit someone with it it doesn't hurt nearly as much.

Any suggestions?

You might try a wiffleball bat painted to look like a normal bat. Then use the normal bat for everything up until the actual blow to help sell that it's solid and the same bat.

Sometimes bats are black, it would be easier to fake if you find a black bat to match.

Hmmm... well in my film the bat is being swung at zombies and I really want to get the swing, impact and reaction of the victim (or lac thereof) in the same shot so what I'm looking for is something that looks like a baseball bat but is much lighter (and softer).

Anyone have any ideas/suggestions/advice?

OK, so I've found an alternative to the baseball bat thing. So thank you everyone for your help and suggestions!
