I once made a dolly like this.
Start with a thick piece of plywood (3/4" or more) 4 feet square. Cut two pieces of 1/4" x 1 1/2" steel angle 4 feet long. Drill two holes in each piece of angle about 12" in from the ends. Drill the holes in the "crotch" of the V . Carrage bolts can fasten the angle to the plywood. Sorta like this,,

______________
...V...........V

The line is the plywood and the V is the steel. (ignore the dots)

1/4" 20 bolts are fastened (bolted) to the steel on the sides of the V (drill the holes about 2" from the ends)

Skate board wheels are then mounted to the 1/4 20 bolts with nylock nuts.

The finished dolly can roll on 1 1/2" pvc pipe (sch. 40) the ends of the pipe can be fastened with 1 1/4" MPT steel close nipples, a pipe tap (1 1/4") is used to thread the insides of the 1 1/2" pipe (track)
The pipes can be screwed together and no bump is felt.

It was a bit of work to make but it did work well (I lent it out and never saw it again), don't skimp, make it heavy duty, It's a whole lot of weight when you get two guys on that thing and start pushing it. If I ever make one again it will have thicker plywood.

Happy building?:)?

You can build a dolly with roller-blade wheels on a 3/4" metal pipe track. I found the roller-blade wheels much smoother than the skateboard wheels used on the clark version. Check out the instructions for the Clark version here:

http://www.jorenclark.com/whitepapers/dolly.html

I have complete construction instructions in my book (Nuts and Bolts Filmmaking), but if you want to go to the table of contents, there?s a picture of it there (section 3.8):

If you?re handy, you can most likely construct it from the picture alone (click on the picture to see it larger). Good luck!
