Actually, can anyone tell me exactly what a condensor mic is and what it does and how it's different from a regular boom mic?

YEAH, I REALLY DON'T HAVE A CLUE ABOUT THAT EITHER.

BUT, THEY MUST HAVE SOMETHING IN COMMON; BECAUSE THE BOOM MIC'S REAL NAME IS "CONDENSER SHOTGUN MIC."

ANY ANSWERS?

There are three main typs of mic's - dynamic, ribbon and condenser. Each picks up sound in a slightly different way. Something about how the sound waves pass over a coil or magnet. Too technical for me.

I think what's confusing you is the use of the word "boom". There isn't a "boom mic". A microphone is attached to a long pole called a boom. That mic is usually a "shotgun" or uni-directional mic used to pick up sound mostly in the direction you point them. As opposed to an omni- directional mic used to pick up sound in all directional fairly equally.

A condenser mic is powered by a battery and has the best over all frequency response.
