I would like to hear anyones creative ideas on staging a safe car chase without having to rent a street for the day $$ or having the drivers get all pissed off cus they lost their lisence. I would like it to be as exciting as possible under those conditions. I have several ideas already but any small contribution is welcome. I'm just collecting ideas here.

What? $1000!! That's crazy talk!!

Ooh ooh! A car chase! ?:D?

Ok, find a big parking lot behind a building, a street where houses are being constructed and is not used, or go out in the middle of nowhere. That is where you can film
some things you need would be empty boxes (no matter what, its NOT a car chase unless some one knoks over some empty boxes) and stuff for them to hit to make it look vilent and stuff.

For filming, the coolist high speed shots can be done at a very low speed. Just get realy far away and zoom in on the action. Have both the cars coming twards the camera at about 25 MPH or less. Each car can be about 200 feet apart, but sence you are realy far away and zoomed in, it will look like the cars are right next to each other.

Grab some shots of the cars zooming by the camera. You can do this one car at a time to be safe. film from this angle:

---------> ?car? ---->
?
?
camera

you can put thies shots in here and there to give the feeling of speed.

Now for shots of the actors in the car, lay down on the hood with the cam, and have them drive about 10 MPH or slower and turn. This will make the backround move, but becouse of the shot, it looks faster than it is. Just dont forget to edit in some cool car engine sounds later.

have fun?:D?

And make sure you edit using quick cuts. Editing technique can slow a scene down or speed it up, depending on what you do with it.

Thanks Digital and astral. The empty boxes was a great idea and zooming in from far away made things look nice and close. Here's a technique I used to get a few bumper cam shots flying through some nice looking populated areas. I just attached a fairly cheap mini DV camera onto a bike and went for a rip around town. I also got a few of my freinds to scream and jump out of the way as I went by. Once the footage was sped up a bit it looked nice and high speed. I also used the same setup to pull close up to the back of the car that was being chased and then cut to the guys inside throwing their heads back to make a nice little bump from behind. I'm pleased with the way everyting turned out and now have a nice looking low budjet car chase.
