Hi,

We are looking to buy a couple of cameras to film some short films and we are thinking of going HD, however we are not sure this is the right choice yet.

We will be editing on Final Cut Pro HD so the software is compatible with HD.

Out of the Canon XL2 and the Sony HVR-Z1E, which is better?

Thanks

Z1, in my opinion. The only real benefit of the XL2 is that you can use interchangeable lenses, but few people do.

Also, some people hack their FX1/Z1 to use interchangeable lenses too:

But that's a bit extreme :).

I would go for the Sony. It outperforms the Canon in all aspects. If you are using Final Cut Pro HD be aware that it's only available for Panasonics DVCPRO HD at the moment. I don't think it will be long before Apple remedy this situation by making it compatible with Sony. Tim

everyone always talks up the XL2. Get a Panasonic DVX100A. The XL2 has no flip open screen which actually is an advantage. PLus the on camera XLR inputs. Great picture etc.
