I know this question has been asked many times, but..

My camera has broke and Circuit City was unable to repair it. I recieved my money back and plus I have been saving up money.

I currently have $1200.

Does anyone have a reccomendation on what camera I should buy?

When the script writing is done, the work has just begun. When the filming is done, the work has just begun. When post-production is done, the work has just begun. When the distribution is done, you decide if the work is done.

$1,200 is tough. Panasonic offers the 3 CCD PV-GS500 for under $1,000. That and the JVC GR-X5 are the only 2 cameras in that price range with mic inputs which is extremely important. The next price range jumps into the $2,000 range.

The Panasonic AG-DVC30 is a nice camera. Controls are more consumer oriented. Movie-Like mode inferior to true progressive imaging; no built-in XLR ports but it has the essentials.

The Canon Gl2 is a little more expensive. Still no XLR inputs and the "frame mode" is inferior.

Sony HDR-SR1 is interesting. I haven't used it, but it's the first Sony under $3,000 to have a mic input and it records to a built in hard drive.

Shop around and you may find a deal.

Sorry if it took so long to answer this, but I went with SOny's DCR-VX2100. It is a very good camcorder. Thank you for all the help.

I had to get a lot more money than what I already had to get the DCR-VX2100, I would highly reccomend this camcorder to any aspiring filmmakers. Just remember that it is no "Point and Shoot" Camera.
