Film Chat,
I am getting ready to shoot a documentary. I has decided to use a portable DAT and a mixer for audio. Since I have never used an external DAT for sound, my question is, "Is there anything special that I need to do(other than slate the scene) to insure that the sound is sync'd with my camera? Also, Do I need to do anything special to the sound setup on my camera (PD-150) or is disengaging the audio sufficeint?
Thanks for any and all responses,

Sounds like you have it covered.
I'd still keep the on camera mic recording, it might help with sync in post. As for any alignment (sync) problems your NLE will allow you to correct that.
GCostigan,
Thank you for your response. That is a great idea to also record on the camera for sync purposes. Since I'm not an non-linear editing whiz, can I easily replace audio tracks once it has been recorded on the camera?
I come from the film world where you get a sync camera and use a Nagra/DAT to get the audio. ...I guess I have just carbon dated myself.
Thanks, Hammond
Your welcome.
In most NLE programs you have the option of adding as many audio tracks as needed. Adjusting or tweaking the audio is as easy as click and drag. Can't think of a good tutorial (product demo?) off hand but if you poke around on the web I'm sure you'll find one.
