I am starting to add better sound to my footage. I am also planning to do some sound for some friends. At the moment I have a Hosa MIT-156 adapter to get along until I can get a XLR box. I see that there are several manufactures. The one I see the most is BeachTek. But I am confused by their product list. They have several different models and as best as I can tell, they differ only as to the brand and model of camcorder they attach to.

The BeachTek model that I think I want is the DXA-2s. It seems to be the most "generic" one. But a friend keep commenting to me that I should get the DXA-4 model. But if I understand the BeachTek website correctly the 4 and 4p are made for specific brands and models of cameras. Does this have anything to do with something I read about some cameras having non-standard wired mic jacks?

Anyway, I don't have the cameras that the 4 and 4p list. I think my friend did and that is why he keeps mentioning those specific boxes.

So some clarification would be helpful.

Thanks,
Henry
