I suspect the school is the best bet: they'll probably want to help you and certainly it's better than asking people to come around to your house... while I'm sure you're not up to anything, I've heard some very bizarre stories about 'auditions' in people's houses.

I haven't had to do much auditioning, but one method suggested by a guy who's made a lot of features (I'm trying to remember which talk it was, I've been to a few now :)) is to basically get anyone who's interested to come along and do something for a minute or two to impress you, then pick the ones who were most interesting and get them to do some kind of acting at a second audition. At least that way you get some idea of what people can do and how enthusiastic they are (don't underestimate the latter if you're shooting a movie with no money: you want people who'll stay to the end, even after it stops being fun).

He also said to always have someone else with you when auditioning: I'm sure it won't apply in your case, but some woman claimed he'd abused her in an audition years ago and he could have been in trouble if it wasn't for the fact that he didn't audition her :).

If you can, tape all the auditions so you can go over them again afterwards: it's much easier to tell how good people are by watching tapes later than remembering on the day.

Mark has good advice. Always bring an extra witness or two for your own protection and as a second opinion. Always record the auditions because sometimes a person appears better or worse on replay and since that is how they will eventually look its best to know.

A home is a bad location for auditions. It should be held in a semi-public place for everyones comfort. An auditorium works but you could also consider other options. Librarys, Apartment complexes, and hotels often have rooms that can be rented out for meetings or for parties. One of those locations might work as well as the auditorium.

If you are 13-16 and looking for actors around the same age you might just meet up with the drama club at your school directly (or the drama teacher) and see if any of them are interested.
