I wouldn't use a shotgun mic, try to get a DAT with microphone up near the ceremony. Synching will be easy enough later..

well, since you can't use a boom mike hovering over their heads, the only options you might have are to pin lavalier mikes to the groom or priest...
or, you could just have someone in the first row hold the shotgun microphone.

Haha, i just posted this in another area of these boards and then i came to this part saw this question, let me know of this helps:
If you can get your hands on a mic separate from the camera (most computers come with them), then go to B&H Photo and spend about $12 on a slate (or clapper whatever you wanna call it), i then would use a laptop computer and plug the mic into that and et the bit rate at the highest setting (you can set it at whatever youre diting program will work with, remember higher bit rate also equals bigger file). And then jusy sync the sound up in post.
I did a commercial like this, worked great, though if you're shooting outdoors or in weird locations (sewers or something like that) you might not wanna take your laptop to some locations etc.
hey
thanks man, thats a good idea
the other idea im playin with is, i have a digital mixer recorder from boss. im gonnna buy a spliter from bhphoto and run an xlr off the churhs pa system to this recorder. record it then dub it up in post production. any other ideas
