Selling shorts to TV is very hard, particularly if they're not very high quality. Most will only buy a TV series or a movie, and even selling those won't be easy.

I would suggest your best bet would be to have a holiday related movie if it's a one-time short you are hoping to buy. I'm guessing channels get sick of recycling the same holiday movies and might give a new one a chance.

I presume he's talking about things like Christmas, or whatever the similar national holidays would be in Pakistan. For example, over here people are always complaining that the TV stations show the same movies and old TV shows every Christmas, so possibly they'd buy something new if it was based around that time of year.

In the US we have Christmas shows that play only around Christmas time. The tv channels are probably always looking for new shows about Christmas. These tend to be feel good, love your family, type message movies. We also have Halloween shows in late October. They tend to be scarier shows.

Those are the two major holiday movie types and Christmas is by far the larger of the two.

Here in the UK I believe a half-hour slot is actually about 25 minutes plus ads. You might want to contact the TV companies you're thinking of selling to and asking if they can tell you what they're looking for in terms of length.

I have no idea about the costs. Very few one-time 30 minute shows appear on American TV. The only ones I can remember are Holiday Specials.

The holiday films are almost always for children so you are on the right path there. They are often 30 minutes in length but can stretch longer. By holiday you might also include special event stuff, for example channels may look for fun stuff to do with football when the World Cup nears.

I've never made a kids movie or a half hour movie, or a holiday movie. These are just opinions, i've got lots of them and they are free so don't make a holiday movie just because I said so, fish the idea around to see if any tv studios might have interest in the kind of film you're considering.

If nothing else a 30 minute film might get you noticed in film festivals and help the career.

well rjschwarz can u tell me what do u do?and in which city u live? secondly are u in the field of filmmaking?or 3d animated films?u said that these films are for free.what do u mean by that?u mean i will not get paid for 3d movie?
