Now, I don't know if anyone here is going to know this because I didn't see many topics posted about actual FILMmaking... just threads for DV but I am looking to purchase film for a 8mm camera I recently acquired. There are few places to find normal 8mm film but I see alot of super8 film. I was just wondering if super8 film is compatible with a non-super8 camera. I've only used 16mm so I wasn't really sure. Any answers would be appreciated.

No. Super 8 and Regular 8 are different. They are both 8mm wide, but Regular 8mm is on a spool which is 16mm wide. the film is run through the camera, turned over and run through again. In the lab the 16mm film is slit.

Super 8 is in a cartridge. The sprocket holes are smaller and the picture area larger than Regular 8.

I haven't shot 8mm, but I have shot Super-8 and I get the impression that if you choosing a small-gauge format, that's the way to go. Film is more readily available, the frame size is (slightly) larger, and it's very easy to handle because it's in a light-tight cartridge.

I've got a Quarz clockwork camera which is nice and solid, but I know Canon made good Super-8 cameras, and then there's the Beaulieu if you're really serious and don't mind dropping a bunch of cash on a camera that uses (let's face it) a dying medium.
