Hi all, been working a couple of gigs now as a 2nd AD, and I find that this varies somewhat between sets, but where does the 2nd ad rank in the hierarchy including all departments. In short who's out of line barking orders at me and who am I out of line for barking orders to?
for instance I have had a camera assistant telling me to do stuff in a condescending way, and I have kinda wanted to tell her to shut up for a long time.
reverse scenario, I have been told by the AD that the monitior must be up and running more quickly between setups comp moves etc. am I out of line for telling the AC to get better at that?
also I am thinking about people in different positions as well, not limited to the AC, but anyone else also.
thanks in advance.
Don't bark orders to anyone. A good 2nd will inspire people to keep on
schedule tactfully. If you have a sense of humor use it. When people
bark orders at you grit your teeth and go about your job. Making an
enemy will not help the overall work that needs to be done. Stay
professional even when you don't want to.
No, you are not out of line telling the AC to pick up the pace. It's
the 1st's job to make the day and it often falls to the 2nd to keep
the crew up to speed while the 1st deals with actors and the director.
