i am about to shoot a talk show indoors...what is the basic way light up the set to prevent shadows?

Start with 3-point lighting. One key light, one well-difused fill light and a small back light. Then move from there (lighting the backdrop, individual elements on the set, etc). It will all depend on what are the resources. If you have a studio with lighting rig, you obviously won't have problem lighting it properly. If you're doing it in your basement, you'll need to get lights that your home power lines can handle.
many do-it-yourself options there, from fluorescent tubes, to LEDs (all very low on power and heat), to halogens.

Assuming you don't have an enormous budget and a grid and a grip truck and a gaffer, spend a couple bucks and get a whole bunch of chinese lanterns. They're a great way to create an even, soft "field" of light on the super duper cheap.
