According to the press release, Syfy Channel will be making movies from $5 million to $25 million. This is apparently in the mid range, and, as the channel's president, Dave Howe, rightly said, a lot can be done with budgets in that range.

I know that show biz is inherently risky, but, in most businesses I know, there are solid-bread-and-butter work, and I have been wondering if movies or film shows in this range can be solid income earners, but not expected to make a lot of money. IOW, shows in this range would usually make enough money to pay off the bank loan as well as give everyone a comfortable living, but no one would expect to make money like Tom Cruise or Bruce Willis.
Any thoughts on that?
