I am currently writting a Highlander short and I need some good sword sound fx. I had planned on useing real swords so I wouldn't need sound fx, but my sword collection is just to precious to me to have anyone clash them together. So now I am looking at using stage swords whitch are plastic but are painted metalic. They look good on film but they do not make realistic sounds. This is a low low low budget film so I am looking for free downloadable sounds. Any help, would be appreciated. Thanks.

Near the bottom, there are some sword fight sound FX. I have not listened to them, so I can't vouch for quality.

The actual item or prop doesn't alway produce the best sound.

While searching the net for a sound efx library can be interesting, you should try different things. Get creative. You'll learn SO much of you try some sound efx yourself.

Thanks paradox! If you know of anymore that would be sweet but with the ones I have I am off on a good start. I have made some of my own effects by recording the clashing of two metal pipes and other metal objects. Some sound good but others don't. I just want as many sounds as possible becuase I don't want to use the same sound twice, if possible.

Go to a ren faire with your camera and record some guys hacking away at each other. If you explain why they'll probably go out of their way to give you good sound.

If you can't wait for the next Ren Faire you might look up if there is an Society for Creative Anachronisms group in the area and see if they ahve any ideas.

Barring that go to a knife shop in the mall and buy a crappy metal immitation sword for the purpose of screwing it up for sound.

Sword sounds in cinema rarely sound like the real thing anyway. I wouldn't worry too much about authenticity, whatever you think a sword sounds like is probably close enough.
