Okay, what was with the Josh Hartnett character? When Hartigan (Willis) shot himself it should have ended there. I hate that ending and can somebody please explain to me what harnett's character was and if he affected the story

as you can see, Josh Hartnett was a assassin, or hitman. YOu can tell in the beggining. The reason he was thrown is so you can understand the end. The girl from the Dwight sequence escaped. And when in the elevator, you see Josh Hartnett, therfor you know that the girl is going to be killed.
If Josh wasnt in the opening scene, you wouldnt think that Josh at the end was going to kill her.
Maybe pointless, the movie could of still been good without him, but just a little extra. I thought it was neat.
