I thought everything was set for my 30 mins short film. The actors were informed. I sent out the scripts. My Producer started to compile all the info needed. Then, BAM! A personal issue between myself, my DP and editor erupted. The details are well, personal, so I can?t really divulge any of it. But the unfortunate result is that I don?t have them on the team anymore.

Now the plot really thickens. They?re really good at what they do and very good friends as well. This is sad on so many levels. I think my mistake is that I let the situation get to me emotionally. I know this sounds cryptic but let?s just say that the issue here is really about our friendships, and not about our work.

well i think if i gonna tell the whole story it will take a long time but you can just read it in http://www.filmschool.ph/blogger/?p=85#more-85 please feel free to put some comment to my blog ..

thanks,
xoxo

I dont really know what to say. I feel sorry for all of you that you cant work things out. I understand that you cannot share what happened and without this information im not really sure what we can say (i am not asking you to tell us as i understand you dont!1)

Ok i think you have to look at this from two perspectives - Personal and work

1) personal
This site doesnt really deal with friendship problems but you have to talk to them - check out some advice from other sites if you need help for this really

2) Work

You really have two choices - Try to forget your personal problems (if this is what the problem is) and try to be professional and get on with the film - if not for each other but for the film itself and the rest of the crew. This could work but if you really cant get on then it may not work at all and the film may suffer as a consequence.

Or 2 - hire some new people as you mentioned you have done - i understand you do not have the same bond as you did with the others as you are not personal friends but you do not have to be great mates before to make the film work - you never know after a bit you might take to these new guys.

You really need to sit down and talk to them about your friendship and how they now feel about the film. Also i take it there are no contracts involved as this is a film school project (so they can leave if they want) In terms of your friendship i hope you work it out but in the film terms you really need to focus on what is better for the production. If they are good at what they do then i suppose you hope they can be professional and get on with the film (this depends on how bad this "incident was").

Just talk to them and see where they stand and how they feel - i hope you can work it out and the film doesnt suffer.
Good luck

Thanks

I had the help of a lot of my friends when I made my movie. A few of them not at all, or they unintentionally gave me stress by frequent requests for me to restate why I needed the location to satisfy their wife. When the dust settled though they were friends and gave what they could give and I'm happy to them for that. The rest is just the stress of the moment. Step back and give it time.

rjschwarz and robmanu7,

Thanks. 🙂
You really helped me decide and think better.
Work is work. In some ways, maybe I could settle the issue between us and work together for the betterment of our short film.
Hope I could turn things right. 🙂
