I'm a former NYFA student, now a writer and filmmaker with many scripts in my hands and film projects in mind. I write my scripts on my own.
Now I'm looking for somebody(ies) willing to bring me some financing help and assistance.
I'm interested in all kinds of stories. The scripts I could complete so far belong to thriller/horror genres and I personally think they're REALLY great and innovative.
What financing help and assistance do you need?

Thank you for asking.
As a matter of fact 'assistance' was not the right word to use.
I already have the budgets - I also made them myself -, now I'm looking for a serious funding source.
I've been looking for over a year for such a source for one of the stories I have, which would require about $10-15M. Another of my scripts needs up to $50,000 - I guess. I wrote that one in 2005 and tried to shoot it in Canada for two years with no budget, and almost did it.
A third of my works is basically a big-budget pilot for a TV series. It could be a motion picture as well as a TV film.
So you're looking for a financing source. I'm still a little fuzzy on exactly
what you need. You know no one on a messageboard is going to have
$10-$15 million and simply write a check to you. So are you asking how
to locate investors?
My suggestion is to first either write out business plans for all your different
projects. Or focus on one of them and put together a financial proposal
for that.
It's difficult to get a handle on what you're actually looking for when you
have so many different projects. My experience with investors and investment
groups is they want to focus on one project. And since the money people are
business people they will focus on the budget, the ROI, and the people
involved more than the story and the script.
Is that kind of what you're looking for?

Yes, I've also been trying to find at least one famous actor for the $10-15M project I have, for about a year. Of course that's very difficult, almost impossible. I find pitiful from the funding deciders to focus more on the people already involved (acting names) than on the script. If they could see the story first and show interest, then it would be easier for the producer/filmmaker to find good people. Because as you probably know, at the same time those same acting names expect a film project to be already fully financed, they focus on the money first and don't move as long as the checks are not ready. So the problem looks unsolvable. I may be wrong but I don't think the best business plan or financial proposal can change that.
Last year I found a source in Florida. The contact I had was ready to finish a financing package and to present it to his partners (that's what he said). The only thing that was missing in the package was a letter of involvement from some famous actor, and I was supposed to find him, when I didn't have the money. And the contact didn't want to tell me about the name of the funding source he had so I couldn't put together a financial proposal. Also he was always asking me for money (fees) when I couldn't know what he was doing.
That's why I focus more on my $50,000 script. I suppose investors and investment groups don't bring funding to such low-budget films? If they don't that's too bad, the ROI is much more interesting on those kinds of projects.
About the financial proposal, is it possible for me to put it together when I don't have neither a funding source, nor the funding itself?
N.B. I'm French, working and writing only in English. I'm still (very temporarily) located in France - in Paris. I already have a business plan, I'm about to go to London and submit it, with all my projects, to a bank there.
It may be pitiful, but people looking for investments are looking
to make money. Investment in a film is very risky - serious
investors look for anything they can to reduce the risks.
What you might need to look for are people who believe in you
enough to risk losing money.
You?re right; working professionals are looking for jobs (for
money) and not usually spending too much time looking to help out
the tens of thousands of beginning filmmakers who want there
help.
It?s not really a bad thing to focus on money when you make your
living in the business.
You?re right - it?s very difficult to get a famous actor to sign a
LOI when you have no money. I suspect your contact didn?t
actually have the investors he said he had. He knew you couldn?t
bring in a famous actor without money so if he had money and the
desire to make a movie he would have done anything in his power
to bring on a famous actor.
So it seems you are quite experienced in this. I now think what
you are asking is can anyone give you referrals to people with
money willing to finance a $50,000 movie. It took a lot of
pulling to get that out of you, but I think I did it.
Am I right? Is that what you?re looking for?

Yes, basically that's what I'm looking for.
Even if I wouldn't spit on a $10-15M funding. But now I know I won't get it as long as I'm not an estableshed artist. Even if some newcoming guys have managed to get that. I suppose I could get it too... if I was located in Hollywood.
You did it - getting it out of me.
But I'm still trying to get famous actors, involved. Especially from France and Europe, like Vincent Cassel and Asia Argento. They are represented by agents in Paris. Maybe you know about George Corraface ('Escape from L.A.'), he's French, and he called me in person and told me he was interested in the project. The only thing is he's not a 'name'. I think Asia Argento has read the script too but she still doesn't say anything.
Most acting names don't really care about the story these days. They just want jobs, whatever it is, with a payment guarantee. So if I could get an investor or investing group interested in my script and story, it would be much easier for me to get those names like Cassel and Argento interested in their turn.
About the Florida contact, after a while I was sure he had no funding partners. I don't talk to him any more.
You're free to email me if you'd like to get more info about what I have.
You said that I needed to write out business plans for all the different projects I have.
I thought business plans were for starting companies, not for film projects?
Anyway what do I have to include in such a business plan, do I have to build it like it's about starting a business or something like that?
