I'm having a bit of trouble scripting everything lately, could anyone be so kind as to help? KTHX.

Ok, let's start from the worries about my script. I have prepared a rough draft consisting of 7 pages only, but that's okey-doke since this is a small Internet/Youtube/Website series we're filming. Back on topic, I have some general concerns about my script. I am fearing that it won't suit our age group, since we're teens that basically overthrow an office with only one adult. We're trying to film something like Net_work or The Office, but it will be built around the keyword: blogs. Meaning an office of teenagers who have set up a large, worldwide blog. Now you see what my concern is? I don't think the script suits us very well at all. It's funny, without a doubt, but just not for us. We have the blog that the entire show is built around (the office blog) up and running if you need a closer look at what we're kind of going with this. I suggest seeing the "Our work environment" page if you go.

Now, my second concern is the length of the video that the script produces. In other words, how long the script will make the video. It's only seven pages hand written so I estimate when all is done it will be about 3:00? If I could get assistance with that it would be wonderful.

Now, my final part of this is if I could get scripting advice from some fellow members, most likely those who have made their own comedies that are still child safe. It would help a ton.

By the way, here is the link to the blog I was talking about:

Child Safe Comedies? Our Specialty.

One guideline that you should follow when scripting is the standart 1page = 1 minuite on screen. time yourself saying each line how you want it to be said, and cut off at one minute, anything else gets carried over to the next page. this takes all the guesswork out of it.

may i also reccomend the scriptwriting program Celtx?
search it on googe. most powerful pre-production software on the market (thats free =P)

i'm not really sure what you mean by the script not suiting you? how old are you guys? most of us are 15. could you guys pass as adults? (16-18?)

Hope this Helps,

Is it one episode in an ongoing series or is it a standalone piece? All scripts should follow the basic formula - beginning, middle and end. Make sure you have the action taking place that is relevent to each of these. That essentially provides you with a base structure.

The rest is plot points, which can further be helped by character motivation. Understanding where your characters are going and why they are doing what they are doing can really help the stuff to write itself.

Overall since it is going on Youtube forget about the length of the piece just make sure it says what you want it to say. Afterall there are some great 20 second videos that achieve more than two hour movies!

If your bit is about blogs I'm not sure it will work. Blogs tend to be words on a screen which are not very cinemagraphic. So you will end up with your people talking about this and that instead of showing which means you've got a harder job getting you point across.

If you made it a video-blog and cut to face in the camera shots of characters ranting it might be different.

If it's for youtube or the internet, I don't think people will care much if you're not the right age. They'll get what you were aiming for. My friends and I do it all the time.
