I use Montage from Mariner Software. Its Mac OS X only, and its still in beta for now but it seems to be turning into a fairly good Final Draft alternative.?:)?

For the price, there's nothing better than Celtx. Cross-platform, freeware software based on Firefox, includes a system for online collaboration.

The best script software is Final Draft. Period. Don't even bother with others.

That is true that Final Draft is the best screenwriting software. However, not everyone has the money to go and buy Final Draft.

I've found that the best free software is Celtx. If you have the money, get Final Draft, however, if you don't have much money, I would go to www.celtx.com and download the software. It's available for PC and Mac.

The cool part of the software is that it's not only screenwriting software, it is also pre-production software. It has a calendar, character profiles, etc.

Yeah, I downloaded Celtx recently to take a look at how it was getting on, and while it's not the best script-writing software the collaboration features did look very useful.

The important thing to remember though is that its not what you're writing with, it's what your writing.

If you are serious about getting into screenwriting the best software by far has to be Final Draft.

Yeah, it may cost a bit, but if this is what you want to be doing for a living - then you should invest in it.

I would hold off on any kind of "by far" talk. Movie Magic Scriptwriter is generally considered the equal to Final Draft in functionality (and price).

I agree with GoofyHorace. I have Final Draft and it is great. If you have the money get it. But if you're just doing this for fun, it really doesn't matter what you purchase. If you are very intersted in screenwriting and wish to pursue it to a carreer the two top choices are Final Draft and Hollywood Magic Screenwriter.

When the script writing is done, the work has just begun. When the filming is done, the work has just begun. When post-production is done, the work has just begun. When the distribution is done, you decide if the work is done.

Final Draft is by far the best screenwriting software available but certainly very expensive and considering it is at version 7 there is much not in the application and there is still many bugs in it that makes version 6 still better.

MovieMagic is good but about the same price as Final Draft but hasintegration into the MovieMagic suite budgetting and scheduling as well which is a good feature.

Sophocles is possible the best bang for buck, good price and has many features that make it a good alternative for commercial software. ?url? http://www.sophocles.net?/url?

The final one I have used is Celtx, good program and considering it is free makes it better but the screenwriting side of it is limited and is missing features that have been in screenwriting applications for a while now, but for the price and see as it is an open source product as well it is a good alternative if you need software. But the best use for Celtx is for pre-production and script breakdown.

I have used all, I prefer Final Draft but I do like Sophocles and Celtx I wouldn't recommend MovieMagic. I hope this helps.

I've been using Marinerwrite's Montage. I've used Final Draft and Moviemagic Screenwriter before- and a few others. Montage on the Mac is pretty cool stuff and very affordable.

I use final draft too. I think everyone will agree that it's the best software around. True, it's a bit expensive, but I bought it anyway when I started because I didn't wanna get a cheap one and then end up buying final draft anyway.

I wrote a short review here http://123filmmaking.com/modules/AMS/article.php?storyid=19

Hope this helps
