Screenwriting Career vs Overwhelming Odds

From reading the posts here - and on some other boards - I get the impression that there are almost no private investors in the UK. It all comes from the government.

That must make it nearly impossible to get a movie made.

I mean, it's really hard getting money here in the States - but for someone like me it's a matter hitting up a LOT of people. I can't imagine having to deal with government bureaucracy.

The government also dictates content, doesn?t it?

Ok, well thats got me fired up to start writing again. Here's a new question - I'm 28 and want to be a fully paid up working screenwriter by the time I'm 35. Assuming the quality of the scripts is good-great, how realistic is this goal?
