Hey, I've pretty much finished planning my first Independant production but I still need a bit of advice. I havent began to organise my shooting schedule, I'm still not sure how I'm going to go about it. I know that hardly any productions shoot the action in the same order as the narrative, How ever I'm considering doing it because my cast arent experienced, and it would help them gain a sense of perspective in terms of what is happening in the narrative.
How ever its obviously a lot less practicle in terms of financialy as well as having to transport people from location to location. I'm not sure if any of you have ever made films where you have shot in narrative order? But if you have then can you tell me your experiences? I'm still not sure if its a good idea or not? Which is why I would appreciate every one ellses opinions. Cleary

It is very possible you will have 'issues' with a location owner after a bit of shooting and tromping around their place. Now imagine they don't want you to come back for the next scene.... Or they are difficult when it comes to scheduling their location availability.

Personally I think you'd be better off rehearsing each scene in order to get the sense of narrative than shoot out of order.

You can determine the difference in shooting costs, time, etc. by planning to shoot in sequence and out of sequence and comparing the two scenarios. It is always best to plan as much shooting in sequence as possible to keep the flow in the right direction. Thorough planning will save you time and money no matter how you shoot.

How many characters and locations do you have?

My protagonists are my most central characters because it?s a domestic drama, there a family of six including the mother. Then there?s two main antagonists which are also central to the narrative because they cause conflict, then I plan to use lots of extra people to make up a gang. I plan to use six different locations, my most important location is the families new house which will be the location that I need to use most as it is central to both the narrative and genre. Which means that the majority of my scenes will be filmed on location in public places. Cleary
