I would like to use recorded music (it was originally aired on the radio in the late 30's early 40's) for a short video...basically for local tv.
The recorded music is listed as the centennial collection which is under Paramount. So how do I find out who to contact?
I tried googling but all I get is how to order a cd. There must be someway to find out....isn't there?
I guess what I need to find out is owns the copyright for the sound recording...would it be centennial collection or is that just a publisher?
Okay. I have spent forever checking this all out. Seems like a lot of trouble for some small project. I have to fill out a cue sheet...for the owner of the song...the recording is owned by Sony so I have to fill out a form for them.
I don't want to pay to use the song because I am just using it for some small local thing. I think I will can using this particular song.
If it ever ends up being broadcast on any kind of commercial (or public) TV, more than likely, you will HAVE to provide all the necessary documentation to ensure the station is not liable for infringement.
If you end up putting it on YouTube, there is a slight chance that Google's robots might detect your soundtrack, recognise the track and then remove audio automatically. I have seen more than one YouTube video where the audio track was completely removed by YouTube automatically, because they detected a commercial song in it ("NOTICE This video contains an audio track that has not been authorized by all copyright holders. The audio has been disabled.").
I think now Youtube just blocks the upload when the music pattern is detected.
