I am about to purchase an XL2, but just saw the JVC GY-100U for about $1,500 more. Now I know it is an HD and all, but is it really worth the extra money, or should I go ahead with the XL2 and put the money elsewhere in my budget? I would appreciate some comparative specs if possible. Thanks.

forget the XL2 and the cy-100, go with the panasonic DVX100A.

If you're asking about the GY-HD100U then I'd say yes! A great camera.

With all due respect to airwalk and his choice of camera, JVC blows the Panasonic out of the water. The lens alone is worth the price. I've got nothing against the Panasonic - it's a fine, high end consumer camera. But JVC offers a true pro camera.

I've been shooting features with the GY-DV5000 for a while - a true pro miniDV camera. I can't wait to take delivery of my HD100 in two weeks!

I've used one of the JVC HDV cameras becuase (I assistant directed a film). But JVC's HDV camera is just like their mini dv cameras, it sucks compared to the others. JVC makes a terrbile camera. period.

I'd say if you want to go HD, get a Sony. Never jvc.

yeah, that first JVC HD camera sucked pretty hard.
but this one is supposed to be pretty good. but i believe panasonic's sequel to the DVX100A (200A?) is going to have similar specs... (HD, 24fps).

While I respect your opinion it would be helpful if you could offer something other than it sucks.

I've made several movies with JVC cameras. As the DP and as director. If you've actually used the GY-DV5000 and found it lacking it would be helpful to tell us why.

I agree with ourkid - that first one chip JVC JY-HD10 was pretty terrible, but their pro miniDV cams are great and this new HD looks like they have addressed the previous problems.

A little respect for other peoples opinion goes much further than absolutes like "it sucks" and "never jvc".

I have used several jvc mini dv cameras both at school and then i used the hd one for a film, none of them gave good pictures at all, the color sucks, tough to light, etc. It doesnt look as good on a jvc.
