Hi,

Does anyone know where I can find examples of music video budgets? I have a template but I don't know how to use it.

Thanks

Fill in the blanks on you templet with the numbers.

For example where it says "Director" you fill in the
amount you will pay the director. Where it says,
"Catering" you will fill in the number you will pay
the caterer. Where it says, "Lighting" you will fill in
the amount you need to rent lighting equipment.
And so on.

Of course there is always http://www.google.com/
Type in "music video budget" and you'll get About
1,420,000 results. At least that's what it said when
I tried it.

There is that funny site, http://www.lmgtfy.com/?q=budget+for+music+video+shoot that allows you to do exactly what you did in a fun way...

I've seen that. It's pretty funny.

I really don't mind answering questions - even those that
can be found using google. Sometimes connecting with a
fellow filmmaker is kind of nice.

Yep. That's a typical budget template.

You will fill in the numbers for each item you will be using. For
example, for number 30-00 Editoral you will find the line item
for "Editor" and put in the amount you will be paying the editor.
This can be by the day or by the week. That's a decision YOU
will make. Once all your items are filled in the software will
calculate the totals. There will be some items you won't be
using so you leave them blank.

Thanks.

Just a few more.

I don't get where you would need to put down the cost of a film equipment and its quantity. Where would you put them under?

Also where would you need to put down the payment rates of a film crew? I don't really understand the template.

There is a numbered section for equipment - rentals
and purchases. And there is numbered section for each
department - art department, camera department, grips,
electric - it's all there.

They can be confusing. You may have one that is more
elaborate than your needs. Pull out the manual, do some
studying and play around with it. Once you get the feel
of it, it becomes pretty easy - like all software.

Which program did you buy?

To me, his screenshot looked like an ordinary Excel spreadsheet. When I googled 'film budget template', I found dozens of Excel spreadsheet templates, with pre-populated fields and formulas, of various complexity. Perhaps it's one of those?

One of my good friends is a video director in our town. He does really good stuff and charges a flat rate and takes care of everything. Check him out, just search for his youtube channel, MrCarlosBerber.

Don't really know why people have to sit and figure budgets. I'm doing everything on my film including financing. If there's something I need, I save until I get it.

Isn't that figuring a budget?

You need something, you find out how much it costs, you
save until you have the money. If you need, say, five things
you figure out how much those things will cost then you save
until you can afford them.

At least for me, that's what I call figuring the budget.
