Pretty self explanatory. I will be filming a movie begining summer of 08 and I need a 17-19th century style war/cargo-like sail ship that I can rent for filming purposes. It does not need to be big but it does need to be able to sail. Does anyone know of any places? Thanks

In the SF Bay Area there is a ship called the Hawaiian Chieftan, in San Diego there is the Californian and the HMS Surprise (used in Master and Commander) and a couple of others. I believe they are all probably for rent for the right price but I can't confirm that.

I suspect the guys running the first two boats can provide details on others around the US as they often travel to other ports and do battle reenactments with other sailing ships.

those look amazing but given their background i bet theyrd be expensive as hell even for only a few scenes. i'll have to ask them
I can't actually speak for the ships but I met the Captain of the Hawaiian Chieftan and he was a good guy. Occasionally they sail to other ports, it might be possible toconvince them to let you shoot during their travels or one of their mock battles. If the shoot didn't cost them any money they may give you a discount of some kind.
Offer them roles in the movie, a plug in the credits, whatever and see if that helps. Doesn't hurt to call and find out.
