I was wondering how you get your actors to learn their lines. Do you give them scripts to read, hold rehearsals or force them with pitchforks? How do you get them to confidently say what you want them to?

Sack the ones who don't learn their lines :). Usually giving them the script and doing rehearsals would be enough.
That said, I was watching an interview a while ago by a director who'd made a movie with Jan-Michael Vincent in the 80s and said that he had to feed every single line to the guy from the side of the camera because he refused to learn them beforehand. I guess when you're the 'star', you can get away with it.
Well, my actors are basically unpaid friends of mine who are in this film because it sounds like a cool idea. I don't think I'd be able to force them into learning lines but encouraging ideas would be more like it.
