ok, here's the problem, my new computer I got especially for editing DV video on doesn't have a fire wire port, what I wanted to know is does anyone know if I can get an upgrade to include it and if so how much would it cost?

Usually you'll need an OHCI-compliant PCI Firewire card: they're pretty cheap these days and not too hard to install. You can probably find one for around $30 online or not much more at the local computer store.
