Ive just been on the uk film council website and it says i need liabilty insurance, but i cant find out how much that would cost. I only wanted to make a film with my DV camera. It's starting to get a bit daunting.

I have (or had, it's just expired and I'm emigrating shortly) annual personal liability and equipment insurance and it's about 300 pounds a year. That was through http://www.aaduki.com/.
If you contact the big companies they'll normally charge Hollywood rates, but those guys seem to be able to better deal with small productions. I don't know if they'll do insurance for specific short projects, but it's worth asking them anyway.
