I've accepted that genuine HD cameras are out of my price range. soooo...I'm looking at the the HVR A1U. With a HD"V" camera like this (I'm open to suggestions for other models)will the finished product be accepted at film festivals etc?

No problem, but you might have to dub it to Digibeta or convert to DVD for the festival entry requirements.
