Greetings all.
Myself and a project partner are currently planning our first major documentary. We plan to self produce and promote the project it is about the extraordinary lives of 2 very unique men.
My question is regarding the legalities. We plan to have a legal contract with the men regarding the documentary. Does anyone have any suggestions for what is commonly included in such a contract? Also what about other people that are interviewed, i.e. family members, friends and the like. What is the normal procedure there? Do they generally need to sign a release or something like that and if so what is the general format of a release?
I would greatly appreciate any suggestions?
Regards,
Jay
While you'll get some good suggestions from the people here, this is not the best place to get legal advice. Doing a doc like this is a complicated matter. After you get suggestions here I hope you're planning to spend time with a lawyer who specializes in this kind of law.
My suggestion: get content and image releases from ever person seen on camera. The general format of a release will include all contact information and an advisement to them on what you plan do with their likeness, voice and content.
