Have any of you ever made your own steady cam?
I'm thinking about making one using a design that I was pointed to online.
But I want to know if any of you have ever tried designing your own? As im not sure wether it would work out better for me to just buy one?
Cheers, Cleary.

I've made the extremely cheap counterweight steadycam for my Xl1
?url? http://www.cs.cmu.edu/?johnny/steadycam/?/url?
It works pretty well, even if you need some upper body strength. I believe you need some welding skills to do the more advanced steadycams. I've also heard it can get quickly expensive.
I've also made the same kind of steady cam, didn't use any welding at all.
You do need a bit of upper body strength but not that much. I think it all depends in the way you walk with your steady cam to give it more of a smooth motion.
I would go with making one your self, it is really easy and could also be better because then you can specifically design the steady cam for your own camera.

I've been looking for something like that. I'm gonna make one as soon as I can get to the hardware store.

Hey guys
Yeah this is actually the design that I was refering to.
How relyable is the design?
How did you find puting it together?
did it actually cost you $14?
Have you got any examples of its results?

It was really easy to put together even if you don't know your way around tools. The one I build held for a couple years now and is still in the same shape it was when it was built.
It actually cost me less than $3. I found everything else I needed in my garage and I got the metal pipes at a construction site, just ask they always got some extra material.
