I write 90% comedy, and have felt similarly. Though a number of people have said they enjoy the drama I've done more.
If you're a good comedy writer it shouldn't be too hard to use some of the plot elements to create a good drama, or other genre. Every genre can use jokes.
I did the sketch comedy thing with a group for a while, but I'm more of a dialogue heavy dark comedy writer.
There are many kinds of comedy. My writing tends to be funny but it's not Will Farrell over the top funny by a long shot. Much more verbal, less situational.

Yeah, theres many different kinds of comedy. I write the random kind of comedy, you could say Monty Python style. I wrote a couple scripts with a group and started to film sketches but unfortunately it didn't work out as well, I'm hoping to start again this year or next, it was a lot of fun.

I have written stuff that is Broken Lizard like, but I have also written some stuff that is dramady and might have a bigger audience as a result.
The script that I am almost finished with at the moment is an R-rated sports/comedy. I am hoping to film it myself if I can get my main location okay'ed.
That seems like the best option at the moment when looking at other comedy films released recently.
