Although I haven't given it much thought I think both the consolidation of media outlets under a few large corporations (think AOL-Time Warner) and the reluctance of distributors to negotiate with smaller independent producers are the biggest threats to indie media.
Yea I think chains, be it chains of cinemas or chains of production compaines are the bigiest threat.

Insufficient funding!!even the low budget and the stuios trying to muscle in on the festivals.
Other than that there is such a larger outlet for indies than ever before with all new medium of the media, indies dont really have to compete with the studios magaflix.They have can now have their own market.
Studios are foreverunder the illusion that they have to spend gigantic amounts of money to get the movie into the cimemas and so only the big budget get priority to win the opening figures at the box office.
