I plan to start shooting my film in the beginning of April. I plan to start assembling the crew and holding cast auditions in mid- February. Is this timeline good? And would it be wise to perhaps meet with the cameraman first, just so we can go over exactly what I want this film to look like, and to make sure he's comfortable with the camera I have? And is a total cast read-through necessary? I can see the point for it, but on a non-paid, Indie project, I don't want to demand too much of my casts time.
Your timeline is fine.
It's wise to meet the cameraman before the shoot.
A read through isn't necessary but can be very helpful.
