Hi there,
rephrasing a bit, sorry:

HDV can be either 1080i or 720p,
pros and cons of each? which delivers output nearer to film quality?
I see from specifications tha sampling frequency for luminance is 55.6875 MH vs 74.25 MHz respectively.. does this mean I catch better lighting in 720p?

I would also like to know what are the advantages of shooting if the line number is the same: imagine 1080p Vs 1080i (or 720p Vs 720i), I do understand in progressive mode I have all lines per frame, meaning more pixels and more data on tape.
I am also interested in which kind of shots I could achieve with a 1080p, and how many fps I can film in both? What if I want to achieve a super slow motion? Would 1080p guarantee a better film quality look? What are currently good cameras shooting 1080p for rent/buy? Do they actually exist?

thanks a lot for putting up this forum.

p

It's kind of a tossup between 1080i and 720p if you're going to a progressive output. 1080i has more horizontal resolution and a similar vertical resolution if deinterlaced: 1080p will obviously have a lot more vertical resolution as well as horizontal.

The ideal solution for film would be 1080p/24, but I'm not sure of any cheap camera which can deliver that. Otherwise, personally I'd go for 1080i/25 shooting on PAL, and then deinterlace (actually that's what I have done, since I bought a Z1 recently).
