And lastly, what editing program are the pros using?

Probably Avid at the top, Final Cut in second place (though it's taking over from Avid in a low of low-end post-production), and Premiere and Pinnacle (soon to be Avid) Liquid software at the bottom.

Certainly most Hollywood movies and big-budget TV shows are cut on Avid.

Thank you for the response, MarkG. So I guess my time and money on Avid are not wasted then.

No, though if you're looking to make a living in editing odds are you're as likely to need to edit on Final Cut as Avid these days. Not sure how Avid plan to beat Apple in the long run, or whether they can.

What is the difference between Avid Xpress Pro HD and Avid Xpress Pro HD Studio and Avid Xpress Pro HD Studio Complate Package? I'm going to buy, which family should I be considering?

The Studio packages come with lots of other programs which you may or may not need (e.g. 3D animation and compositing, I think). For editing you just need Xpress Pro HD.

maybe im an idiot but did you just take clips from friends and make trailers for them?

like are any of your videos original footage or did you just take clips from things and re edit them?

i dont think this shows us good use of Vegas. You could do this same stuff with imovie. Vegas is capable of alot more. I have a friend who makes shorts on Vegas and his stuff comes out very well.

ps i am a FCP user

God Bless Your Friend, You're the man --- You're the Man!

note :
I shared videos with people who appreciate the fact that I am still a beginner in video editing. And I personally don't think 'taking videos and re edit them' is an easy process.
I still lack some of the proper resources to be able to come up with short movies of my own. Also this forum is called "Post-production", so next time u wanna comment, comment sth useful.
I pratically didn't notice any beneficial critisim in your comment

Have a nice day!! ?:)?

this is why i suck at forums. I didnt mean for that to sound mean or harsh. God knows im not a very good editor. Niether of my questions were meant to be offensive. But now that im reading them I do come of as kind of a ****head. Sorry. I also didn't realize you were a beginner.

As for some tips: try to take the music down in the Friends trailers. Sometimes its hard to hear the actors voices. But besides that the cuts are all very clean. Thats the only thing i would do to make them better. I would also suggest playing around with the color correction feature. You can give videos whole new looks with it.

and please dont take this the wrong way. But i think if you go grab some footage that you have taken and edited that it gives you more freedom so give it a try. Once again I apologize if i offended you before.

Which editing program is the best? In my opinion that's unanswerable. Every editing program is good (talking about the major ones). I think it's about learning the program you're using good and being a good editor that is the real matter here, and the rest is irrelevant.
Personally I'm using Vegas. Why? Because a couple of years ago I happened to get a copy from a friend. I spent many hours learning it and it grew on me. Since then I've only concentrated on Vegas for editing, simply because I see no reason why I should spend my time learning another program from scratch.
What I'm trying to say is just stick with the ones you have and learn them inside out. We are filmmakers, artists, not engineers. They are only tools.

We come spinning out of nothingness, scattering stars like dust.
