I just receieved a nice dell laptop for graduation so Final Cut is out, and I would use Avid but they arent supporting Vista, or my soundcard at the moment so it isnt looking like a valid option. Adobe and Vegas are two that i hear are also pretty good options. Which do you think that i should choose? I qualify for academic prices and my system specs are below in case they help. Thanks for reading and please comment.

I'd go with Vegas. It's the only editing software that I've used for the past year-and-a-half or so. I've briefly experimented with Adobe's editing software, but I didn't really find anything fantastic about it. Vegas is really easy to learn, even with some of its more advanced features. I've been using it on Vista for a few months now with no problems.
Adobe is played out and they aren't trying to make it any better. I've never used Vegas, but a colleague of mine did this trailer on it. Check it out at the link below. It might give you an idea of its possibilities.
I use Vegas. Nothing special but I still like it.

Pinnacle which is a division of AVID does support Vista.
