Ive got pinniacle 9.3se, I could buy adobe for 10$ copy but I thought you need the hardware to make it work?? Or doesnt the board matter?

After editing my short film, and couple magic dvds. I made sure for my film I had 250GB, 1gb Ram, 2600+ AMD, dvd-ram rw.

I think alot of this depends on what you learn on. Since alot of us are young filmmakers we usually teach ourselves the software. So good editing software depends on whatever you can get your hands on at the time. I know the most accesible and easiest ones to use are Imovie and Vegas. I have used both.

Imovie tends to be very user friendly. But a little too user friendly. While its good for your first couple films you find that you will become very limited with what you can do with it. This is mainly because it was probably created for families who want to make movies of their kids opening xmas presents.

Vegas is a step up from Imovie and in my opinion a step below Final Cut and Adobe. Vegas is good because all you have to do is download and if you know what to do you can get the whole program for free ?;)?. Its a great program. The one problem i have with it is its interface and it can be used as a crutch. It has a fantastic color correction section on it but while this can be very useful it can also be a curse. I know plenty of young filmmakers who will blow off proper lighting and proper shooting techniques because they know that "I can make it look better in vegas". So if you are using Vegas try not to get too used to fiing all your problems with it. While this may help at first it will hurt you later.

Personally, I think Final Cut and Adobe are the best editing softwares. They may seem just the same and just as good as Vegas at first look but you can do soooo many things with them. I am amazed with all the new stuff i am learning and can do with them. So i think these two are the best two choices. which one you use depends on wheather you are a apple or PC user.

Ultimatly it comes down to what you learn on and what you are the most comfortable with. My main advice would be to start off on a more basic editing program then eventually move up to Final Cut or Adobe. Good Hunting
