Whats up,
I was just wondering if anyone knew how to get that (white-flash / freeze frame) effect thats seen on a lot of movie trailers. I've seen it used during fight scenes where 2 people are fighting then the frame freezes and a white flash swells and decreases. Does anyone know what I'm talkin about.
Any help is very much appreciated
i do know what you're talking about, and i too want to know how to do that exactly!

Are you talking about an effect like a camera taking a photo of the action on screen??

JestGuilt...you're a $#?ing idiot! There, ya like that? lol What was that even about you dork?
Anyway since nobody will be helpful, allow me. I've done it tons of times, it doesn't come out exactly like what you're talking about, but it's so close you can't really tell.
Extract about 3 frames where you want the flash to happen. Now open them in Photoshop, on the first frame create a new layer, then use the Filter>Render>Lens Flare. Render a lens flare that takes up about half of the frame. Then use Image>Adjustments>Desaturate. This is to make the flare totally white, instead of the yellowish color it starts out as.
Then for the second frame make the lens flare take up the whole frame, then go back to half frame for the third frame.
It happens so fast it just looks like a flash.

Crossbeatz I believe I know what you're talking about. I've seen it all the time in trailers...they use it as transistion to something else in the trailer, sometimes the music stops and a "BEAT" is heard. What editing software do you use?

A very simple technique I sometimes use to create this white flash frame effect when cutting to another scene/angle - at the start of the new cut begin with a totally white frame, and just fade it out very quickley, in like, less than a second. If you coincide it with a clashy sound (e.g. - a cymbal crash is very good if it's on that part of the soundtrack) then it makes it all the more effective.

Crossbeatz I took a little video of me and wife arguing at a near by gas station and did a little flash effect on it. I think this is what you are looking for pretty much:

If this is what you're looking for, I recorded a little video of me doing that on Sony Vegas 5.0, watching the cursor move around the screen makes it a lot easier to understand how to do it. It's not complicated at all, hope this helps!
How was the effect done:
