Hello everybody, I just wanted to know what everybody thinks about Sony Vegas 5.0. I?m just curious because I?ve been reading random topics, and when somebody asks about the best editing program; no body ever mentions Sony Vegas. I personally think it?s an excellent editing program, good for starters and even experienced editors. It also renders quickly and most importantly, computer friendly. I own a 1 GHz, 192mb RAM computer and Vegas runs perfectly there, Premiere doesn?t. Well, I was just curious about different opinions. Thanks all!
i'm really curious about it too, since i've been looking for an alternative to the clunky premier that i use now... plus, it's so much cheaper. why is it so much cheaper?!?!?

Hello Ourkid, thanks for replying. I've noticed it's hard getting a response here, don't know why. Anyways, I belive you should really try Sony Vegas 5.0. It's so computer friendly, it supports all kinds of formats, I mean I could go on and on because it has quite alot of features. A lot of people might tell you to buy a MAC or buy Premiere or this and that but you know what, if you have an average computer, get Vegas. I'm not saying Premiere, Finalcut or any other editing program are bad. In fact I like Final Cut but I would like to worry about investing money on something to shoot my movies with instead of a "super computer". I would recommend downloading a demo of the program and try it out. By the way, if you're familiar with Sound Forge, Vegas is going to remind you of it because the company that made Sound Forge were the original owners of Vegas.
Let me know what you think about Vegas.
Hi,
I have been using Sony Vegas for 2 years or so, then it was owned by Sonic Foundry. Sonic Foundry created programs such as Vegas, Soundforge, Acid and CD Architect and Sony bought those Media Programs not so long ago.
It is easy to learn, and if you don't find it easy, once you get the hang of it it gets to be so simple.
Just for your information, Sony have released Vegas 6 which has quite a few more features, including external monitor previewing and HDV and HD-SDI Support. It also includes a feature, which I'm not sure Adobe Premiere has or not, and that is 5.1 Surround Sound. You can configure 5.1 surround sound, and in DVD Architect 3 (which comes with Vegas+DVD), you can author your DVD with the Dolby Digital Sound (.ac3 file).
It also has unlimited video and audio tracks (not that I'd use more than 99 tracks, which most other NLE softwares have)
Overall I love Vegas, and I will be using it for my upcoming first short film.
Thanks,
Ez
