Has anyone ever use SmartSound Sonic Fire Pro to do their background sound or sound effects? If you do, what's your take on it? Is it worth the time looking into it?
I got it free with Avid Xpress Pro. It's come in handy for background music, but by default the selection is fairly limited... you'd have to spend a fair amount of money buying music to provide a wide coverage.
But at the weekend, for example, I was cutting some showreel scenes for some actors, needed some background music for a bar scene, so I just imported the video, told it to create some rock music, then added echoes to the .wav file in Cool Edit so it sounded like it was playing in a bar and dropped it into the soundtrack. Worked pretty well.
Many thanks for the response. If I buy the music, are those musics royalty free? So with Sonic Fire, I can import any .sds file to use as my background music, correct? Do you know if SmartSound Sonic Fire has the capability to encode the sound to DTS suround sound format?
I believe it's royalty-free, but I haven't checked. I hope it is :).
Not sure about DTS output, normally you'd mix the music with other tracks and then convert to DD or DTS.
What are some of the file format that the program accepts for making into background sound?
Don't know I'm afraid, I've only used it for creating music.
Thank you for your help. I guess I'll have to find out.
