Hi,
I'm just starting to use script scheduling software. I know that you need to divide each page of the script into 8ths, but I don't know the reason behind this.
Can someone enlighten me as to why you must divide the script page into 8ths?
Why 8ths?
I'll take a stab at answering.
(1)- because that's the industry standard from long ago when they probably folded the pages, and because 1/4 is too much when rounding up and down and 1/16th is just too small to be useful.
(2)- Producers have to plan out how many pages they can shoot so they don't create to crazy a schedule. Since scenes are rarely even page lengths (or even full pages) they have to be broken up in some standardized fashion to count properly so they don't overschedule or underschedule a days shooting.
