Hey folks,

I've got Adobe Premiere Pro 2, as well as Adobe After Effects. I've only recently gotten these programs, and I'm a little unsure about something.
Basically what I'm curious about is which program should I use first? Should I edit the shots together in a logical sequence with transitions, etc in Premiere and then add any special effects AFTER the movie is put together? Or should I add the effects to the raw footage before editing the movie together?

Well, I have both of those programs and I use Adobe Premiere first, and then Adobe After Effects. In all of my films I begin with Premiere, I edit the film, give it transitions, trim clips, put the shots together, delete the outtakes and other things, and then, in After Effects, I superimpose the scenes that need superimposing with the revised scenes that were edited in Premiere.

But everyone does everything different. It could also vary depending on the scene and film.

When the script writing is done, the work has just begun. When the filming is done, the work has just begun. When post-production is done, the work has just begun. When the distribution is done, you decide if the work is done.

It's generally much faster to edit first and then only add effects to the shots that need it than to add effects to all the shots and then discover that you're only going to use 10% of them :).
