hey,
i have a minidv camera, and edit on pc, using premiere. this seems to work fine, however when i try to use the dv-in feature of the camera the quality is terrible - with white squares all over the screen, and its quite jumpy etc.

the computer isnt that old, but its not great spec, and i was wondering if that could be the problem. its only 800mhz and 256mb ram. when i upgrade to 2.4ghz and 1gig of ram (in about a month) will it work? does that all make a difference?

hope someone can help!!

I've heard that Vegas 4 is very good. Check out this thread for more information:

Now that I don't have access to FCP any more, I have to choose between Premiere 6.5 and Vegas 4. On every film message board I've been to, I've seen countless posts from people who've had problems with Premiere, and countless posts from people who are in love with Vegas and say they have no problems with it at all. From everything that I've read, I'm going to go with Vegas (or wait for Premiere 7... which I don't feel very inclined to do ?:p?).

ok thanks guys. think i will just wait till my new computer is finished and make a fresh start! its been so frustrating not being able to transfer video back to my camera.

i tried doing dv-in with the software provided with the camera, and it turned out exactly the same as premiere did it, so i guess its the computer at fault.

thanks for your help anyway - i might wait until premiere 7 is released, then look at reviews of that and vegas.

What kind of firewire interface card are you using? I have found that the firewire on most motherboards and on the soundblaster audigy cards drop frames a lot and capture jumpy video. when i tried to capture video from my camera on a collegues computer, it dropped frames too (sb audigy) when i installed my own firewire card, it worked flawlessly. i'm using a 40 dollar (euro actually) card very basic. just in/output and no real time effects, but it works like a charm
