Hello filmmakers,
I am thinking of purchasing either Premiere Pro or Avid XPress Pro and have one question. I understand that the only limitation of Avid XPress Pro is that it will not allow real-time rendering unless you purchase an additional Mojo. My question is this: does Premiere Pro allow real-time effects rendering by itself, or, does it also require something extra like the Mojo for it to work?
My second question is this: I understand that both Premiere Pro and XPress Pro are HD supportive. This would lead me to believe that both systems will more-or-less do the same thing, the major difference being that they have different interfaces. But is this so? Or is there a clear advantage going the Premiere/Avid way?
Avid Xpress Pro does not support HD. You need Avid Xpress Pro HD for that. I use AVID and I love it but a ton of people love Premiere pro as well.

As you have Avid do you need any hardware for it to work or will it work fine with no hardware. As im buying Avid xpress on CD.

I plug straight into my computer via Fire Wire. I did not have to buy any other hardware, and the USB dongle came with the program. I hope that helps!

But the question I want to know is can Premiere render effects in real-time??? I know that Avid requires an expensive Mojo to do this, which is one of the main things that turns me off using Avid. If I can find out that Premiere can do this without additional hardware then I might buy Premiere instead for this reason.
I don't know about this?

avid can render in real time just fine without the mojo, been doin it forever, and it also supports HD, just get avid xpress pro HD...
Premiere Pro needs a card such as the Matrox RTX-100 to render effects real-time. Last I looked; it ran around $1000 (ouch). To top it off the Matrox card is picky and requires 3 separate hard drives (no set up in a raid array). Even with all of this and a stout PC, Premiere gave me problem after problem.
After 2 years with Premiere, I finally got smart, saved my $, and bought a G-5 with Final Cut Pro. Final Cut will take HD, but needs a $300 piece of hardware to render HD real-time.
I don't know much about Avid, but I can tell you that since using Final Cut Pro, I wouldn't use Premiere if somebody threatened to throw me into a pool of double edged razor blades.?:)?
