As an editor for event videography and infomercial style business DVD's, would this work well? I also intend to use it as an editor for my projects(i.e. shorts). Overall, whats the learning curve on this, and would you recommend it? Please give your experience with it and problems/things you enjoyed.
*Edit:After looking at this and other programs, while I am still interested in this program, I'm looking at much more possiblilities. I'm basically looking for a program that has a simple enough interface that I won't be overwhelmed and will be able to do something with it, but will also have the ability to grow with me as I get better at editing. What are your recommendations? Please name your experience with that product.

I wouldn't really reccomend Pinnacle Studio. But if its all you can afford, then just use it. Its an okay editor, it just that there is only tow video tracks, and two audio tracks. And the program itself always crashes (But I don't know, last time I used it was when I was younger, and it was version 8.)

If you could, try stepping up to something a little bit better. If you have a Mac, try Final Cut Express. I have used the program and it works very nicely.

Maybe even try your hardest to step up to Avid Liquid Edition.

If you are going to have people paying you to film and edit events, I would suggest get a NLE that is a little better than Pinnalce Studio. Maybe you could use Pinnacle for a few events, and then buy a better NLE with your earned money.

Pinnacle Studio could actually get the job done. But it will get it done in an AVERAGE way, and just for that you actaully need to trick the program, like you need to do stuff that is not in the manual to accomplish something that is not in the manual.

Hope I helped.

When the script writing is done, the work has just begun. When the filming is done, the work has just begun. When post-production is done, the work has just begun. When the distribution is done, you decide if the work is done.

Pinnacle isn't a bad product but if you can afford better do. I used to have Pinnacle 8 too and I didn't have the same problem as Director958. It will write reasonable DVDs and it is possible to customise the menus. However, programming multiple menus is pretty tricky and the buttons are pretty dodgy when you see them on tv playback particularly when you've made your selection. Nonetheless I still use pinnacle for writing dvds because it is easy although I use premiere pro for editing. I have used a trial version of Adobe Encore DVD, which was absolutely fantastic...in a different league to pinnacle. A full version is pricey and its not as easy to use but I managed to teach myself to make some pretty damn good menus in under a week. I really couldn't recommend it more if you can afford it (which I can't!)

the trial version is available off the adobe website by the way and lasts for 30 days from the time of download...so don't download it until you've got something you want to put on dvd.

Yeah but using the free trial to make a commercial DVD is illegal. ?xx(?

I'd reccomend Sony Vegas if you want a powerful video editor with an easier-than-most learning curve. I've used Ulead Media Studio (first NLE editing suite I used), Premiere and Avid; Vegas has by far been the easiest to get to grips with- and is on a par with Premiere etc.
