It's an interesting look, but it's NOT animation. At best, it's an interesting After Effects filter.

This is not animation and it's not exactly an innovative method or a totally new look either. There is already a feature lenth film that uses this technique along with actual animation. It's called "Waking Life" directed by Richard Linklater.

Very cool technique, but yeah, it's been around. I'd love to try it one day, though. You might want to check this movie out when it hits theaters; haven't read the book, but it looks cool. http://www.apple.com/trailers/warner_independent_pictures/ascannerdarkly/

There is a local comercial that uses that tequnique, they clean up the images a bit more though.
